This Week in ELA ...

In Writing this week, we continued to work on our biography projects. Some students have been finishing up research, while others have started creating their presentation. There are a lot of wonderful ideas for projects and I am excited to see the final products.

During Reading, many groups continued to work on identifying and analyzing points of view. Other groups are working on character traits, while others are starting to dig into some non-fiction content. On Friday, our half-day turned into a full-day with a two-hour delay (thanks, snow). With that wacky change in our schedule, we decided to take the time to read independently and practice fluency with a reader's theater. One class read a script full of alliteration and tongue twisters, while the other group read about the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Our "Shelf"ie continues to fill up! Keep up the great reading everyone!

Question of the Week: What is your favorite fact you learned while doing your biography research? Email me by Tuesday morning to win some candy!

One School, One Book and Other Updates

We have our first full week after Winter Break in! It was a busy week filled with point of view discussions, character traits, and research. Every student has picked a famous person, from the past or present day, to research. We have been working on using reputable sources to find valuable information. We also discussed what a bibliography is and have been keeping a list of all our citations. Soon we will begin putting our research into a project. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

Additionally, North Hills kicked off our One School, One Book for this school year - Matilda! It has been great to read through such a wonderful book as a school. I am excited to continue having engaging discussions on what we're thinking about this book.

Finally, our "Shelf"ie is growing really fast! I will post a picture sometime soon, so stay tuned!

Question of the Week: What has been your favorite part of Matilda so far? Email me by Monday morning for a chance to pick from the candy closet!
